Creative, experiential. Nothing like what they've tried before. I work with
teenagers who have been through a mental health crisis and are stepping into
outpatient care, and with teens who've never been in crisis but have spent
their whole lives being what everyone else needed them to be.
I don't hand them a worksheet and ask how they feel on a scale of 1 to 10.
We might use a sandbox with small figures. We might use stories and metaphors
to talk about something that's hard to name directly. Sessions usually don't
feel like therapy to them. That's the point.
I work with teens who are navigating:
- Post-crisis step-down from inpatient care
- Identity and self-discovery
- Anxiety and depression
- Self-harm and suicidal thoughts
- Trauma processing
- Peer and family relationships
- School stress and transitions
- Self-esteem and finding their voice
Note for Parents: Teen sessions are confidential — not to
exclude you, but because teens need to trust the process before they can use it.
I check in with parents at the start and periodically, but session content stays
private unless there's a safety concern.
